This moth belongs to the Automeris cecrops Group.

DISTRIBUTION:

Automeris manzanoi moth (wingspan: males: 59mm; females: 82mm// forewing length: males 29-35mm; females: 40-48mm) flies in
Ecuador: Manabi: San Luis de Canoas; and
Esmeraldas: Mompiche; at elevations around 15-270m.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Moths have been taken in January-february, June-July-August and November. There are probably additional flight months.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females extend a scent gland from the tip of their abdomens to "call" the males. Males use their antennae to hone in on the airbourne pheromone.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Larvae probably pupate in a very flimsy cocoon spun amongst leaf litter.

The species name, manzanoi, is honourific for Ivan Manzano.
