DISTRIBUTION:

The Almeidaia romualdoi moth (wingspan: males: 112mm; females: unknown) flies in damp tropical woods in southeastern Brazil: Sao Paulo

This species has elongated narrow forewings with hooked tips. The ground colour of the forewings is orange, becoming white in the basal area. The hindwings are a translucent white. There is also some orange along the top of the hindwing from the basal area to the apex.

"The pair illustrated by LEMAIRE 1988 (The Saturniidae of America - Ceratocampinae) is Almeidaia aidae, not A. romualdoi." Eurides Furtado.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

The lone known specimen in existence was taken in November. Larval hosts are unknown.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Almeidaia romualdoi males use their antennae to seek out females which scent at night.
