DISTRIBUTION:

Automeris tolimaiensis (wingspan: males: 71mm; females: mm) flies in
Ecuador: Canar: surrounding area El Triumfo, 1989-07-01.
Colombia: Tolima: Cordilera Central: 6 km W Cuello, 4.4,-75.3, Rudloff, 1998-08-17.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

The specimen type was taken on 1998-08-17 in Tolima, Colombia. A specimen has been taken in Canar, Ecuador, July 1, 1989.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Males use their more highly developed antennae to seek out females who release an airbourne pheromone into the night sky.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Eggs are deposited in clusters of 6-40+ on hostplant twigs. Larvae have urticating spines and are gregarious, especially in the early instars.
