DISTRIBUTION:

Cricula australovietnama (wingspan: males: 63mm; females: ??) flies in southern Vietnam: Type locality: Vietnam, Plato Tay Nguyen, Mt. Ngoc Linh, 15º02'N, 107º59'E, 900-1400 m.

(Etymology: named after the known distribution range in southern (australo) Vietnam.)

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

The Holotype male was taken August 10-25, 1996, Possibly October 8, by Sinjaev & Afonin.

Larvae will probably accept fruit tree foliage: apple, cherry, pear, possibly Liquidambar, as the closely related species has been reared on Liquidambar.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females extend a scent gland from the tip of the abdomen to call in the night-flying males.

Males use well-developed antennae to track the airbourne pheromone.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Larval Food Plants

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the anticipated?? foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.

Liquidambar ....... ??
