DISTRIBUTION:

The Cicia citrina moth (wingspan: males: 33-40mm; females: 45mm) flies in
Brazil: Goias, Matto Grosso, Parana (CM), Sao Paulo;
Bolivia: El Pailon (Department of Santa Cruz);
Paraguay UD: Concepcion, Cordillera, Paraguari, and probably San Pedro.

This is a light coloured species without a forewing discal spot. The male has a yellow body. It may simply be a lighter, seasonal form of pamala. The known female is white.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

There are possibly as many as three broods annually with Cicia citrina moths are on the wing possibly in March-April, possibly June, and then in December-January.

Larvae probably feed on Honey locust (Gleditsia triacanthos).

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Female Cicia citrina moths extend a scent gland from the posterior tip of the abdomen to call in the night flying males which become active around 11:30 pm.

EGGS, LARVAE AND PUPAE:

Mature larvae descend tree trunks to pupate in underground chambers.

Larval Food Plants

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
