DISTRIBUTION:

Copaxa cydiphondurensis (wingspan: males: 67mm; females: 69-75mm; // forewing length: males: 38-40mm; females: 40-44mm) flies in
eastern Honduras: Lempira; Cortes at elevations near 1400m.

This moth is extremely similar to Copaxa cydippe from Mexico, and to Copaxa purulhensis from Guatemala.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Copaxa cydiphondurensis larvae probably feed upon avocado (Persea americana).

Most of the Copaxa brood continuously so I suspect cydiphondurensis would be on the wing every month of the year. Thus far this species has only been observed on the wing in July. There may be additional flight months.

Copaxa cydiphondurensis AT female, Lempira, Honduras,
69mm, on my home computer only.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Male Copaxa cydiphondurensis moths use highly developed antennae to locate females by tracking the airbourne pheromone plume. The female releases this scent into the air via an organ extended from the tip of the abdomen.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the anticipated foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.

The species name, cydiphondurensis, is indicative of a very close similarity to C. cydippe and a specimen type locale in Honduras.
