DISTRIBUTION:

Cerodirphia fuscajamarcensis (wingspan: males: 79mm; females: // Mfwl: 42mm; Ffwl: ) flies in
Peru: Cajamarca.

The evenly dark brown forewing has a convex outer margin with brown fringe, darker and slightly produced at vein ends. The hindwing fringe is noticeably produced and darker at wing veins, and it is checked with off-white to lighter brown between veins, giving the outer margin a slightly scalloped appearance.

The hindwing basal-median area is lighter than other wing regions, and there is a very diffuse lighter band outside the diffuse greyish pm band.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Specimens have been recorded on the wing in October-November at elevations of 1950m. There are probably additional flight months.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Males use highly developed antennae to locate females at night by tracking their airbourne pheromone plumes.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Larve feed gregariously and have urticating spines.

The species name, fuscajamarcensis, is indicative of a dark brown species from Cajamarca, Peru.

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
