DISTRIBUTION:

Cerodirphia opis (wingspan: males: 70-75mm; females: 89-96mm) is endemic to
southeastern Brazil: Rio de Janeiro; Parana; Santa Catarina; Rio Grande do Sul.
Brazil: Santa Catarina: Sao Bento do Sul, -26.249, -49.384, 2005-04-01 (Mirror).

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

This moth possibly broods continuously with adults taken in December-January, March-April and August-September. Larval hosts include Croton urucurana.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Males use highly developed quadripectinate antennae to locate females at night by tracking their airbourne pheromone plumes.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Larve feed gregariously and have urticating spines.
