DISTRIBUTION:

Holocerina digennariana (wingspan: males 52-58mm: females: mm / forewing length: males: 30mm; females: mm), flies in
Ethiopia: Shashemene (Arsi; Mirab Arsi Zone of the Oromia Region); Arba Minch; at elevations near 1400-2000m.

I would not be surprised if its range extends into northwestern Kenya, northeastern Uganda and possibly even southeastern Sudan, but I have seen no documented records for those nations.

In males, the narrow forewing apex is greatly produced, and the forewing am line is smooth, without a projection "tooth".

The forewing dark median field is much reduced compared to other members of the genus due to subparallel, proximate tract of both the am line and the pm line.

Specimens have thus far been taken in July.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females call in the males with an airbourne pheromone, which is detected and tracked in flight via the males' highly developed antennae.

Holocerina is a modification of the Greek 'Holocera' which means entirely waxy.

The species name, 'digennariana', is probably honourific for Cyril Di Gennaro.
