"Moon River" |
Possibly?? it is replaced in Zambia and Angola by lighter, brighter and smaller Micragone moxicoensis.
Micragone ansorgei is synonymous with bilineata (Salisbury, Mashonaland, Zimbabwe) and trefurthi described from Tanzania. It's again a "miombo" species and probably also flies in SE Congo (Shaba/Katanga). Now, 2012, both bilineata and trefurthi are treated as separate species. This species may now be more limited to Zambia and southeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, being replaced by other members of the group in the more extended ranges indicated above. for instance, M. bilineata might be the representative of the group in southeastern DRC; M. amaniana would be from Amani, northeastern Tanzania; M. trefurthi in Tabora, northwestern Tanzania, etc..
Micragone ansorgei or bilineata??, male, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Micragone ansorgei larvae feed on Berlinia globiflora, Berlinia paniculata, Brachystegia spiciformis, Cercis and Julbernardia paniculata.

The pronunciation of scientific names is
troublesome for many. The "suggestion" at the top of the page is
merely a suggestion. It is based on commonly
accepted English pronunciation of Greek names and/or some
fairly well accepted "rules" for latinized scientific names.
The suggested pronunciations, on this page and on other pages,
are primarily put forward to assist those who hear with internal
ears as they read.
There are many collectors from different countries whose
intonations and accents would be different.
The species name, 'ansorgei', is honourific for Dr. I. W. Ansorge.
