DISTRIBUTION:
Maltagorea rostaingi (wingspan: males; females: 94mm) flies in
eastern Madagascar: Lakato; Masoala (2-3m); Brickaville (10m); Sahamamy (120m), Anivorano (440m).
In the regions around Lakato this species is symatric with Maltagorea mariae and Maltagorea pseudomariae.
Maltagorea rostaingi has a diffuse band of pale pink scaling just outside the dark, distinct, very straight, preapical postmedian line.
Ground colour is a uniform reddish orangey-brown. Cell markings are tiny. The hindwing has a faint, dentate pm line and some small dark spotting
near the anal angle.
In males of this species, the forewing pm area (submarginal/marginal area) is devoid of any dark markings.
The female has some dark spotting in the forewing pm area as well as more extensive spotting in the same area of the hindwing.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:
Maltagorea rostaingi larval hosts are unknown, but many Maltagorea species utilize the tapia tree as a larval host.

The pronunciation of scientific names is troublesome for many. The "suggestion" at the top of the page is merely a suggestion. It is based on
commonly accepted English pronunciation of Greek names and/or some fairly well accepted "rules" for latinized scientific names.
The suggested pronunciations, on this page and on other pages, are primarily put forward to assist those who hear with internal ears as they read.
There are many collectors from different countries whose intonations and accents would be different.
The genus name Maltagorea is a contraction of the Malagassy branch of the Tagoropsis / Pseudantherea group.
Mal from Malagassy Republic (Madagascar);
tago from Tagoropsis:
rea from Pseudantherea
The species name rostaingi is honourific for Rostaing.
