TAXONOMY:Superfamily: Bombycoidea Latreille, 1802 |
"Moon River" |
The forewing outer margin is almost perpendicular (slightly obtuse) to the inner margin and straight until it suddenly curves outward toward the falcate, but not overly long apex. The three-four "points of light" are quite apparent with one considerably larger than the others. They are ringed by light grey-brown in a darker brown cell region.
The transverse line and the am and pm lines are also quite distinct.
On the hindwing, the outer margin is very convex. There is one larger point of light below two smaller ones.
The body and ground colour are an olive brown with dark brown, almost black on the thorax and around the cell area.
Orthogonioptilum csomaense male, All Leps Barcode of Life.
The underside is quite dark with much lighter yellow in the cell regions around the points of light.
Orthogonioptilum csomaense male (verso), All Leps Barcode of Life.
This species is easily confused with monochromum and diabolicum, and examination of genitalia is often required to distinguish the three.
