DISTRIBUTION:

Orthogonioptilum dallastai (wingspan: males: 51-53mm; females: larger) flies in
western Cameroon at 700m and
westward to Togo, and
possibly also in Nigeria and
possibly Benin.

The forewing apex is pronounced but only a little. The forewing anal angle is sharp, but not projecting. The ground colour is a fairly bright rosey-beige. The transverse line is distinct near the costa, much less so near the inner margin. There is a brownish-yellow area around the points of light, of which there is but one on the forewing (accompanied by another miniscule point) and one on the hindwing (accompanied by two additional miniscule points).

The female is unknown.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

This moth flies in April and possibly again in the fall.

Orthogonioptilum dallasti larval hosts are not reported.

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.

The pronunciation of scientific names is troublesome for many. The "suggestion" at the top of the page is merely a suggestion.

There are many collectors from different countries whose intonations and accents would be different.

The genus name Orthogonioptilum refers to the nearly right angle at the anal angle of the forewing.

The species name is honourific for Dall'asta.
