Orthogonioptilum ?? , (male), Ghana, courtesy of Eric van Schayck.

I am not sure of the identity of the Eric van Schayck image directly above from Ghana, but it seems a good match for the patterning of the other moths on the page which may or may not have lost considerable colouration due to fading of orange to mousey-grey-brown.

In the male, the forewing is very falcate with a rounded apex. The male is very similar to O. fontainei, O. hodeberti, O. luminosum and O. lemairei. The transverse line and the am and pm lines are hardly visible, as they blend in with ground colour. There is one larger window, which may be split, on the forewing, bridged over by one or two others which are smaller.

The hindwing has one large, oval window, bridged over by one or two miniscule ones.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

This moth flies in April and October, probably with another brood midway between those two months.

Orthogonioptilum nimbaense larval hosts are unknown.

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.

The pronunciation of scientific names is troublesome for many. The "suggestion" at the top of the page is merely a suggestion.

There are many collectors from different countries whose intonations and accents would be different.

The genus name Orthogonioptilum refers to the nearly right angle at the anal angle of the forewing.

The species name is probably for the holotype location of Mont Nimba, Guinee.
