DISTRIBUTION:

Orthogonioptilum silvaticum (approx. wingspan: males: 55mm-65mm; females: larger) flies in
Zaire (Dem. Rep. of the Congo): Kisangani, Yangambi, Kivu, Irangi, Kamituga, Kinshasa, Bombo-Lumene and Isiro; and
the Central African Republic: probably Haute-Sangha, Sangha, Lobaye and Ombella-Mpoko; and
possibly northeastern Congo.

Thierry Bouyer (1999) equates this moth with Orthogonioptilum concordia.

The male forewing is fairly falcate and an almost uniform red-brown, but darker in the median area. There is one well formed "point of light" surrounded by a lighter region which includes some smaller points/spots.

The hindwing is of similar colour, a bit elongated with a convex outer margin. There is one well formed "point of light" and some smaller dots.

This moth probably flies in March-April and again in September (confirmed). There may be another brood between the two cited.

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
