DISTRIBUTION:

Orthogonioptilum solium (wingspan: males: 61-64mm; females: 82mm) flies in southwestern ,a href=Cameroonsatsbiz.htm>Cameroon. The Natural History Museum website indicates Edea. It might?? also fly in Equatorial Guinea including Bioko Island.

The forewing is fairly falcate. The body and all wings are a dull grey-brown with slightly darker colouration on the thorax. The antennae and thoracic collar are beige. The transverse line is absent or faint. The am line is dark, and the pm line less so.

The area of the two "points of light" on each wing is usually a clear brownish yellow, distinct from the surrounding area. There is a small patch of this same colour near the apex.

The underside is a bit darker.

This moth flies in November-December. There may be also be spring and summer broods.

Orthogonioptilum solium larval hosts are unknown.

The genus name Orthogonioptilum refers to the nearly right angle at the anal angle of the forewing.

The species name 'solium' might be from solum, indicating the earthy (leaf mold) colouration of the moth, or it may be from the Latin 'solium' meaning "seat".
