Females extend a scent gland from the tip of the abdomen to call in the night-flying males. Most male activity occurs in the two hours before midnight.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Pseudautomeris salmonea larvae are similar to Automeris larvae, being gregarious and having urticating spines.

The image sent to me by James Seawright, for identification purposes, comes from southeastern Panama about fifteen kilometers from Colombia border. This is outside the range listed by Lemaire, so identification may be incorrect, but I believe the species is salmonea with more colouration than depicted by Lemaire or by the other two larvae depicted.

Larval Food Plants

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.

Passiflora quadrangulare.......
Schinus terebinthifolius
