DISTRIBUTION:

The Saturnia (Rinaca) algisrimasi (forewing length: males: 36-37mm; females: ) flies in
China: Yunnan near Zhongdian at elevations around 3350m.

Algisrimasi is more greyish than other members of the S. (R.) boisduvalii subgroup. Forewings are relatively narrow. The apex is rounded. Pupils in the ocelli of all wings are well formed, and dark reddish-brown.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Adults are on the wing in October, probably as a single generation. Larval hosts are unknown.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females extend a scent gland from the tip of their abdomens to "call" the males. Males use their antennae to hone in on the airbourne pheromone.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

The species name is honourific for Algis Rimas.
