Callosamia promethea male, pairing with Hyalophora cecropia female,

Pierrette obtained eggs from the above pairing, but the larvae did not mature beyond the second instar, below.

It would be interesting to learn if an ecdysone injection would override the mechanism that blocks further development, if there is such a mechanism.
