If anyone can help Harry with this request, please do so.

Bill:
I have an interesting question. Do you know what the type locality of Hemileuca maia is, or has anyone done any work to identify the location that Drury's type came from?

You may know that Long Island, N.Y. has a unique population of H. maia that is definitely an undescribed subspecies or possibly a different species from mainland H. maia. It is smaller than mainland maia, wings more transparent and with a more prominent hair covering. I am planning to do some rearing of different populations of H. maia in an attempt to verify that the differences are genetic.

I did once rear both populations and the differences proved not to be environmentally influenced, thus indicating they are of genetic origin.

In the event I am not able to obtain livestock myself in the coming year, do you know anyone who either collects or rears H. maia in the northeastern U.S. who I might contact for livestock? Thanks for any help you can provide!
