ORMISCODES BLANCHARD, 1852

The genus Ormiscodes belongs to the Hemileucini Tribe of Subfamily Hemileucinae in the Saturniidae Family. Larvae have urticating spines, and members of this genus are found in South America, primarily Argentina and Chile.

From the species whose life cycle is known, the eggs are deposited in rings around host plant twigs, and the egg stage is the overwintering stage. Pupation is either underground or amongst leaf litter.

Some of the flight dates suggest two broods or a very large window of a single flight. The latter may be the case as egg development and larval growth are factors of temparature which can be marginally suited for "normal" development times in many areas of habitat.
